পত্রিকার পাতায় খবর পড়লাম, পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী এ কে আব্দুল মোমেন সরকারের ওপর চাপ সৃষ্টির জন্য বিদেশে লবিস্ট নিয়োগকারীদের দেশের কথা চিন্তা করার অনুরোধ জানিয়েছেন । গত সোমবার ঢাকায় পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ে সাংবাদিকদের প্রশ্নের জবাব দেওয়ার সময় তিনি বিদেশি লবিস্ট নিয়োগকারীদের উদ্দেশে বলেন, ‘আল্লাহর ওয়াস্তে দেশটাকে ধ্বংস করবেন না।’ সরকার যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে বাংলাদেশের স্বার্থ দেখার জন্য যেসব লবিস্ট নিয়োগ করেছিল, তাদের বাদ দেওয়া হয়েছে বলেও তিনি  জানিয়েছেন। লবিং বিতর্কে পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রীর এ বক্তব্যের আলাদা গুরুত্ব রয়েছে। ভালো হতো পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী যদি ব্যক্তি, দল ও সরকারের পক্ষে কোন লবিস্ট, কতদিন, কত অর্থের বিনিময়ে কী কাজ করেছেন, তার বিবরণ প্রকাশ করতেন। যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সমর্থন পেতে তৃতীয় দেশের সহায়তা চাওয়ার যেসব খবর বিদেশি সংবাদমাধ্যমে প্রকাশ পেয়েছে, তার কোনো যৌক্তিক ব্যাখ্যা অবশ্য তাঁর বক্তব্যে মেলেনি।   সরকার যদি লবিস্টদের চুক্তি সত্যিই বাতিল করে থাকে, তাহলে পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রীকে ধন্যবাদ জানাতেই হয়। কেননা, যেসব কাজের জন্য সরকার গোটা পাঁচেক লবিস্ট প্রতিষ্ঠানকে দিয়ে যেসব কাজ করিয়েছে, তাতে তেমন কোনো ফল মেলে নি। সে

As the mainstream political parties have been engaged in endless squabbling on how the next general election can be a credibly fair and inclusive one, our law minister, Anisul Huq, has informed Jatiya Sangsad that the Election Commission has already formulated its work plan to make the upcoming national election “transparent, impartial, fair, free and peaceful.” The law minister further said that the EC wants to ensure equal opportunities for all parties in the elections and ensure that no government agency files any case to harass anyone. He informed the lawmakers that the EC has finalised an 11-point decisions for the next election.      The decisions he listed are nothing special or unique. The welcoming reactions from the mainstream opposition parties to the recently announced visa policy by the United States for Bangladesh was predictable, as they have been relentlessly complaining about the systematic destruction of a credible electoral institution. But the often confused reactions from the government and the ruling party seem surreal, as if this foreign intervention in favour of a free and fair election in the country is a blessing for them, too.
